Have you ever thought that idli can have an interesting twist and make our mornings much better? Once you religiously follow this recipe and bite that tender piece of deliciously made idli, your mouth goes 'Mmmmm', and the plate says 'give me more'.
Ingredients
- For Idli Fry: 6-10 idlis, cut into 4 squares each
- 1/2 tablespoon oil
- Salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder – as per taste
- 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
- 4-5 curry leaves
- Red Chili Sauce
- Soya Sauce
- For Manchurian: 1 small capsicum, cut in cubes
- 7 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 inch of ginger
- 1 green chili
- Coriander leaves
Method
- 1
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a tawa on medium flame. Fry the idlis until crisp and golden on both sides, then set aside.
- 2
In a frying pan with hot oil, add garlic, ginger, and finely chopped chili. Sauté until the garlic turns golden.
- 3
Add green chilly and mustard seeds, then the chopped onion and capsicum. Stir until the edges turn golden.
- 4
Lower the flame and add a teaspoon of soy sauce, followed by 1/2 teaspoon red chili sauce, then 1/2 teaspoon tomato ketchup. Add 1/4 tsp black pepper powder and salt as needed — go easy, since the sauces already carry salt.
- 5
Add the pan-fried idlis and mix well so the sauces coat evenly. Switch off the flame, wait a minute, then stir in coriander leaves.
- 6
Serve the Idli Fry Manchurian hot and warm as a snack or a meal.
